Al and Cal Homes and Community: As I Drive Through The Small New England Towns That I Call My Office During This Time of Year

As I Drive Through The Small New England Towns That I Call My Office During This Time of Year

As I drive through the small New England towns that I call my office during this time of year

I am all at once saddened and filled with pride as I see the amount of American Flags flying proudly from the telephone poles throughout the centers of these small communities.   Recently a young visitor from Germany commented to me that it was amazing to see how many homes flew the American Flag!

Funny, I have come to think of it as common place.

And while I feel this immense  surge of pride at seeing these displays at this time of year,  it is a heavy reminder of those men and women who gave their lives in service to this country.

While I know and understand that this "holiday" has become the official "kick" off for the summer season, I am glad to see that these New England communities have not forgotten those that have fallen and it makes my heart swell with pride to know that the meaning of the day has survived.

I've been trying to capture the feeling of patriotism   with my camera as I drive through some of these town centers, but  am clearly  unable to do so.

The thought remains.

Lovely post Carol and nice pictures. There are many of us who long for this kind of community.

Good omrning, Carol-Ann....I think most of the town in our area continue to display pride and honor for those fallen soldiers....I know Franklin does its part.

It is easy to forget what the holiday is for !!! Every one is so excited about the start of summer, they don't think about the meaning of the day as much as they used to..Thanks for the reminder.

There is a town not far from us where a gentlman posts the name, branch of service and date of death of a fallen soldier on telephone poles.  It is sad to see how many of the poles have names on them.  What a tribute to those who have sacrificed so much for our country and freedom.

Thanks for sharing !

A very important day for our country.

A neighbor flies our flag every day.  He has an old car, the house could use some work.  But that flag blows in the wind every day.  I love that house.  He is proud of his country and proud of his service.

Hi Nancy.    I saw that one year, Holliston MA right?    That is very sad to see those names and ages.    Thank you.

Hi Al.    Thank you.    The stores are all open, it's business as usual, it  makes it much easier to forget.    I hope you have a great weekend!
