Al and Cal Homes and Community: A Story About A Great Man, His Family and Friend. RIP Felix "Doc" Peter.

A Story About A Great Man, His Family and Friend.  RIP Felix "Doc" Peter.

I read this article about Doc Peter (my Dad's bud) and was so moved that I felt I had to share.

Felix "Doc" Peter age 90 died on July 25th.   Doc was a veteran of WWII and even more specifically the battles at Siapan and Iwo Jima.    I feel like I have known Doc my whole life although in reality have met him in person just a number of times.   I did though receive a few letters from him when I did something that I guess compelled him to write.    He also shared letters with my sister Nancy's 4th grade class.

Doc was always quick with a smile and a story.  Just thinking of him makes me smile.   He was my Dad's "brother" as they shared the horror of battle together and survived.   They never lost touch and remained good friends seeing each other pretty much monthly over the years even though separated by miles.

This article posted in the Merrimack Journal is a must read all the way to the end.   If it doesn't bring tears to your eyes, I will be surprised.

I guess there is a reason they have called these guys the "Greatest Generation."

Semper Fi Doc.  The world will miss you.

This is an unbelievable story and gosh how touching in all aspects. Your are absolutely correct about the Great Generation and what those folks did. Thanks for sharing your family story and your Dad is a great guy and human being. His friend was also a truly great person and nad man. Its hard to be able to ever live up to what these did when they were younger.  Thank you LORD for these folks. Where would we all be without them?
