Al and Cal Homes and Community: Yea, the Blog is good, but Did you Read the Comments?

Yea, the Blog is good, but Did you Read the Comments?

Yea, the Blog is good, but Did you Read the Comments!

Can I preface this blog by saying really?  Who ever thought in a million years that a Realtor or anyone else for that matter would be encouraged to blog and actually have it be part of their business plan.    Holy cow, it almost seems ridiculous.    I mean what we are really talking about is simply putting thoughts down and or writing about things that seem important to you.  comment

I was introduced to blogging and have been posting on active rain and my little blog for just over a year now.  In so many ways, I don't understand the aversion to it from many of my colleagues and friends and acquaintances in general.

They may not see the value in it.   I get that, but until you try, you really have no idea.   Honestly, when I got a call about a Santa parade that I had written about I was excited.   When I found out the guy was calling from Connecticut, I was over the top!

And, how about this?    I wrote a blog about my thoughts regarding selling your house before buying it and stupidly called the blog "What comes first the Chicken or the Egg?"    Well, don't you know, I received a legit call from someone looking to purchase live chickens!     Okay, so I already knew it, but these types of incidences cemented in my mind the power of the internet.    (and to title your blog correctly!)

So, I digress.

Yesterday, I was lucky to be featured on Active Rain.   I love it and feel very honored when it happens.  Who knows the why my blog was chosen, but that is not the question.   I read all the folks comments and of course enjoyed responding back.   A blog forum is a wonderful place for give and take.    Not just active rain either.   There are so many blogs out there, and if you take the time to comment it begins a dialog that can be very informational and thought provoking.

Do you read the comments on peoples blogs?   Seriously there is a lot to learn!

Many times, I find that the comments on blogs are more informational and interesting than the blog itself!

If you can just open your mind to what people have to say, and sort out what is really meaningful to you, then you begin to realize that this is a classroom!    The best kind.    A give and take of professionals.  Professionals that receive no monetary gain  by their interest and information that they have to share.    They are just sharing.

I encourage you to check out not only the blog, but the comments.   Who knows what you might learn!

I am guessing you are headed to another feature Carol Ann...suggested.  I agree, often the comments are better than the original post and can provide much insight.

I agree, bloggging is good for business and a good place to learn. Comments also are a good place to learn, not only on blogs, but with any groups that you belong to on fb, Li, etc.

Hi Anita.  I have learned a lot from reading peoples blogs and comments.  So little time.   Thanks for the push.   :)

Hi Debbie.     A place to voice opinions.. and they are appreciated!

Hi Dorie.   Sad to say, but I learn more here than from the CEU classes that we required to take.

Hi Jeff.    I agree.

Hi Ginny.  Never ceases to amaze me how much people want to share, freely.   It is just great!

Hi Barbara.    Not everyone has to agree with a writer and/or they offer other tips.    Thanks for the click.

Hi Fernando.    That is nice to know.    Clearly others read those comments too.

Often the comments ARE the blog. If a question posed and solutions, experiences shared.

Hi Andrew.   I asked a question the other day and got a ton of tips and advice.   You are right.   Many times the comments are the main event.

Well, I just hit the suggest on this one too Carol Ann :)!  You are knocking it out of the park.  Depending on what the blog post is about determines whether I will read the comments (on another's post).  Many times you can get some terrific information and I have subscribed to many folks according to a comment or two :).

Of course on my own posts I read every comment because to me it's a type of interaction.  I believe that it's the difference between AR and another blogging platform...the interaction between us as professionals :)!

Ypour blogs are really good and you have some excellent ideas and thought provoking questions. Reading the comments many times provides so much additional excellent information. Many folks do not blog as they have simple problem of making sentences let alone a complete thought. Sounds like I am being hard or mean or whatever but that statement is true many times. I can personally tell you I have learned a lot more about real estate by blogging than I ever learned from the RE classes I had to take.

I will suggest this blog and hope it gets featured.

Carol Ann, the nature of the blog post certainly does generate a variety of comments and many times they really bring forth the message of the post.

Hi Brenda.  Gal after my own heart.   I too have subscribed to some because I see their comments on others posts.     Thanks for checking in!

Hi Bob.   I always appreciate your thoughtful and right to the point comments.  I have learned a lot from what you have to say.

Hi Ed.  I agree.    There are many times the comments are supportive in nature because of the subject and others that get the thoughts going.   Thank you.

Another terrific post Cal, commenting and building on line relationships and the dialogue are what make ActiveRain unique.

Thanks Carol Anne, I have been enjoying blogging for about 6 months now and encounter some funny reactions from some family and friends too, but it is fun and I learn a few things too.
